Terms of service
A draft, written to be read rather than skimmed past. It has not been through a lawyer yet, and it will be before anyone can sign up.
What this is
Songvo is a marketplace. People who own instruments and backline list them; people who need them for a night rent them. Players list themselves for hire the same way. We run the place where that happens.
We are not a party to your rental. The agreement is between the owner and the renter. We take a fee for providing the marketplace, the evidence trail and the protection described below, and we will step into a dispute, but the instrument is not ours and the booking is not ours.
Who can use it
- Thirteen and over
- Accounts require a date of birth and the floor is thirteen. Under that we cannot lawfully hold your data and will not try.
- Eighteen to transact
- Renting, lending and being booked involve money and liability for someone else's property. Those need an adult.
- One account per person
- Reputation only means anything if it follows one person. Duplicate and throwaway accounts get removed.
What we ask of you
- Describe gear honestly, including what is wrong with it.
- Photograph condition at pickup and return. It is the whole mechanism that protects both sides, and skipping it forfeits the protection.
- Turn up, or cancel early enough that the other person can replace you.
- Keep it on the platform. Arranging a cash deal off it strips the evidence, the protection and any recourse either of you has.
- No illegal use, no harassment, no scraping, no reselling access.
Money
What you pay is shown in full before you confirm: the rental, the service fee, the protection fee and any deposit, itemised. We do not add anything at the end and we do not charge for cancelling inside the free window. Payments are handled by our payment provider; we never see your card.
Protection, and its limits
Bookings made and handed over through Songvo are covered for damage, loss and theft, from a platform-funded pool paid for by the protection fee. It sits on top of your own insurance, not instead of it. It depends on the condition photos existing, which is why we keep asking for them.
Leaving
You can close your account from the app at any time, provided nothing is outstanding. Gear out on rental, an upcoming booking, a held deposit, an open claim or a payout we owe you all have to be settled first, because each of them involves somebody else.
Closing hides you immediately and erases you after thirty days. Signing in during those thirty days cancels it. Bookings, claims, reviews you wrote and handoff photographs survive, detached from your name — the privacy policy sets out exactly what and why.
Suspension
We can suspend or remove an account for breaking these terms, for a pattern of complaints, or where leaving it in place would put someone's instrument or safety at risk. Where we reasonably can, we will say why and let you respond.
Liability
Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud, because it cannot. Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, our liability for any booking is limited to the fees we took on it plus whatever the protection covers.
Changes
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you before the change takes effect, not afterwards in a changelog.
